  1. Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu…

what I do for these last 6 years of being fully covered is…

    * Limit exposure during the hottest hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

*Wear Light Colors: Darker colors will absorb the sun’s rays and be warmer than light or white clothing, which reflects light and heat.

*Wear natural fabrics (cotton, silk, linen) rather than polyester, rayon, or other artificial fibers

*Wear tank top under extra long khimar..

    * Keep your hair shorter in summer time…

*Don’t over stress and talk about how hot it its..just remember that you will inshAllah have reward for your struggle and ask Allah to make it easy for you..
try your best to keep with the tips and just remember those women who have to work on fields all day, working on the farm and still being covered.. :) it always help me..hehe .. May Allah make it easy for you at these hot summers…
    salam alaykum my sisters..

  2. how i stay cool

don’t go outside when it’s too hot or when sun is too strong
    wear cool, comfy, loose clothing
    take cool showers daily
    eat ice cream
eat fresh fruit (for hydration & anti-oxidents)
sit in front of fan but i prefer sitting in my basement where it’s a cooler temp. you can save money on electric bill because you don’t need to turn on a/c or fan.
would be nice travel to other places where it’s cooler this time of year

  3. Assalaamu Aleikum Sisters,

I live in Texas and it is quite difficult to stay cool here when the summer months roll around, as the summer temps are often in the 100 degree range.

So my attempts go something like this- When possible I stay out of the sun mid day when it is hottest outside. Also since it is quite humid here, I try to wear natural fabrics (cotton, linen, etc.) and light abayas so that the clothes are breathable and I dont feel suffocated.
The hijabs we choose in summer make all the difference too. Light colored, cotton hijabs are my favs for hot days. And I wear a cotton tube underscarf to absorb the moisture as it keeps my scarf in place.
Under my abayas I usually wear just a thin cotton tank top and a cotton skirt or very thin and wide linen pants. (they are really comfortable, go with everything, sold everywhere, and my personal favorite for under abaya clothes.
Keeping hydrated when outside is also very important so I always carry a water bottle in my purse and I keep 2 in the car.
It is not always easy to keep cool in summer, but then again even non hijabis are hot, insha allah Allah rewards all of us for our efforts and that we cover for the sake of Allah and love for our religion.
And lastly whenever we feel too hot, we can just mentally visualize the winter and the cold that are only a few months away, insha allah! :)))))

    Take care everyone!
    Salaam

I switched to an organic deodorant stick with Aloe Vera that does not clog the pores, and when I sweat I pat with dry tissue to dry the sweat, wipe with wet wipes, and then reapply “JASON” deodorant.
I try to stay out of the sun when it’s too hot.
I keep a bottle of water with me and occasionally take small sips.
I wear a cotton t-shirt and undergarment under my clothing.
I have always dressed with several layers of clothing and a full chador over them, and never had a problem with overheating AlHamdulillah (I actually feel cooler).

May Allah bless and guide you my sisters!

  5. assalamua alaikum

I wear damp undershirts and I make sure that i put on layers. Another thing that really works is keeping any of your hair off the back of your neck. Also it is good to wear very light slip pants even under jeans. I hope this helps.

  6. assalam aleikum
I also do not go out until evening .
I wear maxi dresses under my abaya ,ot a tank top with a skirt .I just wear normal black abaya of good fabric .For Hijab I like to wear chiffon or Silk chiffon Hijabs that are very light .I wear a cotton underscarf .Sometimes I make it wet and it helps to stay cool for a while .

    waaleikum salam

  7. Shorten your hair in the summer
Bring an ice cold water bottle with you and occasionally spray yourself underneath
Wear a short sleeved shirt or tank top underneath your Abayaah/Khimaar
Eat/drink popsicles and slushies. The things we eat and drink can both cool or warm up your body, so eat/drink the things that can cool you down instead of make you hotter!
Most of the time, its only so hot because we keep complaining and telling ourselves that its so hot. Most of the time, a lot of the heat and stress is all in our head. So, be positive, patient.

  8. Asalaamu alaikum,
I do most of the above: staying indoors during peak sunlight hours, tank- dress under abaya or large cotton khimar, ice water–lots! Cotton skirts and open sleeves (not the closed cuff).
Sometimes though you get really spoiled by AC. It can leave me a little burnt out feeling too. So sometimes, not to torture myself, I turn off the AC or turn it up for a bit, and do some active work around the house or indoor/outdoor chores (very brief trips!). This kind of perks me up and makes turning on the AC much better. I know this sounds awful, but it helps, especially in building up your heat tolerance. I really, really can’t wait to find a light colored abaya for midday trips, but until then…..

  9. Assalamu aleikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I think that more you say to yourself that it is hot-hot-hot the more you feel so. In the Hell-fire is more than that so it is good to be patient. I am wearing all year around black jilbaab and niqaab and gloves and I love the color and in summer time I intend not to change that.

The things that I do change in summer time – try to wear under cotton or linen clothing, I prefer even organic cotton better (more soft to skin). Even the underwear and bras should be good quality cotton, it really makes the difference. Try using panty liners also. Always wear socks (even in the house; your legs sweat less) but instead of shoes I wear sandals. Use good deodorant for underarms. And even when it is very hot weather I have tried to use on my body baby dusting powder – it works wonders against sweating. Drink loads of water and try maybe not go out when it is the hottest time of the day.
But still keep your mind positive and ask Allah to make you strong!

  10. Assalam Alaikum
I have a different approach to surviving in the heat. I get my body use to the heat by just going outside when its a mildly hot day and with water of course. At first its hard but Alhudulilah it gets easier. So you dont have to hide out in the cool house, which then makes it feel even hotter outside. Im not saying try to stick it out in 90 degree weather. Start in the mid 70s and ease into it. As you get used to the heat and apply other things like wearing linen or cotton fabrics and light colors summer days will become easier for you. Insha Allah.
Im not a summer person at all, but since i have to young children i do not have the pleasure of staying inside until it cools down outside. So i had to just suck it up and it wasnt easy. And now Alhumdulilah I have a higher tolerance for the heat.

  11. As sallamu alaikym wa Rahmattallah I stay cool be limiting my activities outdoors during the hottest parts of the day and when I do go out or have to be out I wear lightweight garments and stay out of the Sun as much as possible and have something cool to drink with me.

  12. Asalaamu Alaikum

I think everyone has stated what I wanted to state. I could also add wearing cloth that is loosely woven so the air can get through. Also wearing scarves made of thinner material. Skirts and dresses under your jilbab are also cooler than pants.

  13. Asalaamu Alaikum sisters. I find by wearing my abayas extra big in the heat, my body stays much cooler. The buttefly style seems to be perfect for this. i also wear good cotton tshrts and pants.(loose of course) socks made for sandels(they have a sort of seam between the big toe and first toe. baby powder and lots of aridxx dry deeoderant. i sometimes put a small ice pack under my kihmar behind my neck ( no one is aware it is there). i think of it like my carry along mini personal air conditioner. a bottle of water, hydration is a must in the heat and i am a fan of water ice on super hotdays. I always keep i mind i may be hot, but the hellfire is much much hotter. ahumdullah

  14. Assalamu alaikum,

MashaAllah, looks like most of us do the same things to stay cool during hot summers! I definitely agree that wearing abayas and skirts underneath actually help keep you cooler because when there’s a bit of a breeze, you really feel it slip inside your clothing :) I also HAVE to have my super-large icy drinks; continually guzzling them help keep my temperature down. Of course the best way to keep cool is to stay indoors in an air-conditioned building :) WaAllahu a’lim!

  15. assalamalaikum girls (:
I recently started hijab and I must admit it’s difficult during the summer, especially the Texas heat.
I try to do most of the things ya’ll have already said but here’s some more suggestions:
*keep a spritz bottle filled with cold water and spray your face lightly if you feel yourself dehydrating
*try wearing long sleeve tshirts with sleeveless cardigans, you stay covered since cardigans are loose fitting and you stay cool because they’re breathable.
*wear a headband underneath your hijab to prevent loose hair from sticking to your forehead/neck.
*I either use baby powder or certain dri deodarant – they both work amazing at absorbing perspiration.

may Allah reward you for your patience. ameen :)

  16. Assalamu Alaikum Sisters,

This is my first summer covering, but in 90+ degree heat with high humidity I have found that wearing loose silk and cotton dresses and skirts underneath good quality abayas keeps me cool. As far as hijab, wear cotton underscarves with silk (smooth and chiffon) keep me cool as well. And wear sandals too.

  17. Salams sisters
insha Allah everyone is in the best of health and imaan. I know the date has passed but here is my tips and suggestions anyways to help you progress in innovative attire and designs.

In Australia the Summers get very hot, over 45 degrees Celsius in some places.
What I do to stay cool in summer while wearing abaya is to wear thin and light weight fabrics that are extra loose. Also light coloured fabrics are usually worn in this time by me because as we all know black and dark colours attract heat much more easily and hold heat better then white and other light colours.

Sometimes it is hard to find non-see through thin fabrics. But cotton is a great fibre that can be used in so many ways and I think is the best way to find thin non see-through fabrics that breath well. However, new fibres like micro-fiber have been developed so there are lots more choices on the market.

It is at this time that I best enjoy wearing the long khimars, because I find that air moves up through that type of khimar much better than the other times of hijab.

    Ma-assalam.
