As salam aleikom wa rahmatullahi wa barakahtuh,
My most memorable moment was the first day I wore hijab for the sake of Allah. I was living in Arizona at the time. It was the middle of summer and it was 110 F outside. I had to go to the bank with my mom. I was so nervous, because everyone at the bank had seen me before without hijab. I felt the whole world would be staring. As my mom went up to the teller, I sat down in the waiting area trying not to be noticed. Suddenly a middle aged man approached me, and I became nervous. I had this feeling he was coming to criticize me for my hijab. He greeted me, and then said; “It takes a lot of commitment to wear that when it’s so hot outside. Good for you!” I was blown away. I couldn’t stop grinning. It was the most beautiful feeling, this feeling that yes it does take a lot of commitment to go against the norm, to stand out from the crowd and to do something for the sake of Allah. I will never forget this day, it still brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. Alhumdulillah. Nothing is impossible without Allah’s help.
As salam alaikum. My most memorable experience while wear hijab was the first time my father complimented me on my clothes. It was last winter, I was wearing a navy blue jilbab and he told me that I looked very nice. They (my parents or sister) have never commented on my choice of clothing or my hijabs before and coming from my dad it meant a lot that he said that. He hasn’t said anything else since but I really treasure that he did say something that one time.
Assalaamu Alaikum,
Masha Allah I have many funny stories about my hijab choices throughout the years but here is just one:
One day I got the bright idea to wear a big shirt, slacks and believe it or not niqab! Niqab and pants shouldn’t be worn at the same time LOL! Alhamdulillah the sisters today have so many sites and local stores to get the proper hijab and books on the the topic of proper hijab. That is a blessing from Allah.
assalam aleikum
I have many funny Hijab stories ,but this one I remember most .
One day I was sitting at work on the chair wearing white shirt and black pants and very long white Hijab .I used to work in public place ,so people would always stare or say something .I got used to that .One young lady was passing by with her little kid ,he was about 3 years old .So when he saw me ,he was so amazed and he kept looking at me ,then he looked at his Mom and pointing at me said to her ,Mom what’s THAT? Then he looked again and said : oh its a WOMAN ! His poor Mother looked so embarrassed ,I could not say anything but only to lough at this innocent comment !
Assalamu Alaikum,
I think the most memorable moment for me was when I first put on niqaab in highschool. I remember walking out the door and my mum saying, ‘are you sure u want to be dressed like that to go to school?’ and my dad saying ‘well, it’s better than a miniskirt!’. Will never forget that. It was amazing to see how the opposite sex also showed respect to students in niqaab. If there was a crowded area we needed to get through, they would actually move aside for us to go past. It really goes to show, respect yourself and others will too. May Allah(swt) keep us all steadfast, ameen!
As’salaamu alaikum wa Rahmatullaah!
My most memorable and funny experience has to be when my older son was younger, whenever he would kiss me it would always be on my eyes because that was the only thing he could see because i was wearing the niqaab, i used to always find that really funny but then he ‘grew out of it’ and my younger son then took over in a different way, he would always behave very shy whenever he saw me with the niqaab on and he would keep smiling mashaAllaah!!
As sallamu alaikym wa rahmattallahi wa barackatu my most memoriable experiene was the first time I want to my ob in my hijab I was nervous thinking they would look at me and treat me different.so when i went to sign in they asked for my insurance cards and if my info
was still the same, they were still being nice( no funny looks or comments). So when the nurse practioner was done checking to see if I was healling ok and I was on my way out the nurse practioner complament my outfit and said I look nice and ask my if I make my own garments.
Asalaamu Aalaikum wa Rahmatu Allah
I would have to say that my most memorable experience by far happened one day while I was walking out of a store in one of the more “upper class” malls in Toronto. I was wearing my niqaab and I noticed that an elderly woman stopped by me and began to speak. I didn’t realize that she was actually speaking to me at first, but then I turned around, and she said, “You know a lot of women admire you?” I was completely bewildered and that caught me off-gaurd. “How did she gather that?”, I thought to myself. Then she continued on telling me that a lot of women don’t have the strength to do what I do…
It seemed that Allah had sent her to me as those had been my first days of university wearing niqaab, and I had begun to feel isolated because of the lack of support. “SubhaanAllah!”, I thought to myself.
Then the question came :). The woman asked, “so say if a man sees you and he thinks your eyes are beautiful and he wants to marry you, then he sees your nose and he no like it, then what?” I began to laugh,”then there’s another man out there who will” I replied.
Inshaa’Allah :)
As Salamu Alaykum..
my name is Azra and Im 22 years old..I’m wearing my hijab from 2005,and niqab from 2006 :)alhomdolillah!
ahhh..hmmm,there is many moments that are “most memoriable” while wearing my niqab…Im the only one in my family and my husbands family side that is covered so you can imaging “moments” at family gathering’s :)
some of my number one are:
when I was with my husband at the store shopping and standing in line at register, and 6-7 year old boy was behind us with his mom,he asked my husband what is my costume and “what was I ? LOL it was Halloween that day:)
And when I went to visit Bosnia last year, tourist’s were taking pictures of me in Mostar City as I was “part of the theme” of Old city.. :) like a mascot! LOL
THE MOST memorable experience was sadly the one when I cried for hours. my friend Madina’s father came in to my house unannounced and saw me without niqab (first time in 3 years after I wore niqab for a strange men to see me! it was shock to me)..I screamed and turned away and ran to my bedroom to put niqab SUBHANALLAH I was shaking and tears were blasting from my eyes.. the guy was not in Islam so didn’t understand what I was going through..Madina came to buy a book from me and her dad decided to come in.. :S they left after 5 min.. I called my husband at work and cried his whole break .. :(
he comforted me with his kind word’s so I felt better..
even tho I still feel chills down my spine when I see my friend’s dad :S
my most memorable experience would have to be any time a child has asked me what im wearing whilst or more specifically “WHATS ON YOUR HEAD?”out in public,
especially the time one little boy pointed at my husband (in thobe) and myself (in abaya and a very pretty flowy light blue hijab) and yelled in excitement “DAD LOOK! ITS JESUS AND MARY” his dad was really uncomfortable and thought we would get angry but alhamddulilah it opened the door to dawa and now that little boy and his family are Muslim
The funniest experience involved nursing. My niqab reached my knees, so it was easy to nurse in public. You could not easily notice I had a baby under it. One day I was riding a very quiet bus. People started looking around attempting to find the origin of the loud sucking sound.
As Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh.
Mashaa Allaah, the most funniest comment I have ever received about wearing niqaab was about 3 years ago. I was at a global market and trying to decide which restaurant I wanted to get lunch from. This lady came up to me and asked how do I plan on eating with my face covered. Subhan Allaah.
