  1. As-salamu ‘alaikom~

Overheads (and giveaways!) are fantastic, in my opinion. I don’t wear them in America, where I currently live, because I feel like they are more intimidating to people who are unfamiliar with the range of Muslim dress, but where they are more socially accepted they are my favorite thing to wear, particularly in the heat. (I was so happy to see you add a tie-back style of overhead to your catalog, incidentally … the only problem with overheads to me is keeping them from slipping a bit when being active … the tie style may be a little warmer, but for me it is definitely more practical.)

    • as salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullaah Sister Michelle,

Thank you for your comment! That’s true that they are more intimidating to non-Muslims, especially in less populated areas where they don’t see niqab or hijab often. The style that rests on the head (without ties) does take a good deal of getting used to when moving around, getting in/out of cars, and even during prayer since it tends to slip off the head. The tie-back style helps with this since the ties keep it affixed to the head. But you’re right that they do keep you cooler in the heat since a good deal of the fabric is off your body.

  2. As salamu aleikum sisters,

To the world were I live (Europe) overhead abayas are pretty foreign and uncommon. But at the moment I am doing my studies in France and I found out that french sisters have a very own style that looks pretty similar to an overhead abaya, its called jelbab and consists most of the time of an long skirt and a veeeery long khimar. Thats definitefely a style i really like and would go for myself. The only thing i dont like is when the abaya is too short which means for me not touching the ground, but thats maybe just a general thing…

I hope I could help youwith my comment.
    All the best to you,
    Ma salamah.

    • as salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullaah Sister Laura,

Thank you for your comment! That’s interesting that the French sisters wear a skirt and long khimar. Khimars do provide good coverage that is similar to an overhead since they also rest on the head and fall away from the body.

  3. as salamu alaikum,

I don’t much like overhead abayas. I tried wearing one before and found it annoying that it kept falling off my head. I tried pinning it too at the top but then the back was dragging a bit and one sister in the masjid stepped on the back and my head was yanked back and the pin ripped the fabric. : (

Maybe the tie-back one is easier to wear but I just find the regular abayas more comfortable.

    • as salaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullaah Sister Sumayyah,

Thank you for your comment. Yes, the tie-back one is easier for most sisters to wear, especially if they are not experienced with wearing the non-tying style. Since it ties at the back of the neck it would not need to be pinned and would not fall off your head.

  4. As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuhu:

I used to be really fond of the overhead abaya but as the years have rolled on, I have felt a need to cover more than what the overhead affords. I prefer to wear khimaar and a shoulder abaya and I feel much more comfortable that way. I do like the overhead abaya for their convenience but I think I will most likely stick to wearing shoulder abaya and khimaar.

  5. Assalamualaikum,

Overhead Abaya. it looks cool plus it covers very well . i love how its wide and easy to walk in.Its super practical as we could just wear it on top of our normal clothes without changing how the overhead abaya looks espeacially during wedding or parties where we would wear beatiful dresses underneath. Its super aweosme as it covers the body completely no matter how thin or fat aperson is. I ve seen itin a varieties of colours like pink , brown, blue and black . but personaly i love black overhead abaya! For me its comfortable if it is the right size and material. i do think that the material should be a very light material and it would be the perferct overhead abaya and it wont drag your heads to the back and anoy anyone of us really. So , overhead abaya are really nice and i think everyone should give it a try.

  6. salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

I have not tried an overhead abaya before. They look hard to wear though and like it is uncomfortable. I don’t think I will try to wear this one because I like the regular abayas. I ordered from you and very much like my abayas. May Allah reward you.

  7. as salamu alaykum Akhawaat,

Head abayas are all I wear now. I find them most comfortable and easy to wear since all I need to do is put on my underscarf, abaya and niqab. They are also much cooler for me than shoulder abayas in the heat since the fabric stays off my body and I have ones that are made of very light fabrics so the air passes through. I don’t wear the tie-back style, just the type that rests on your head and maybe in the beginning they feel awkward but I quickly adjusted and now they are completely comfortable to me.

The only thing that is a bit difficult when wearing them is if you need to wear a jacket or something on top. You need to get a shawl or something that wraps but even those fit strange since it doesn’t rest on the shoulders like normal (due to the abaya being on the head).

  8. Asalaamu alaikum,
I have one overhead abaya, but I do not wear it as it tends to slide off of my head. I have thought about trying the one that has ties to see if it is easier. I like the idea that it covers so completely.

  9. Assalaamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu, two years ago i saw a sister from egypt wearing overhead abaya, and since that time i always wish to have one and wear it too (usually i only use shoulder abaya).
Finally last month it was on Eid was my first time to wear it, Alhamdulillah! We bought overhead abaya with tie-back from sunnah style and I love it! I still wear it although i have problem with the lengths (the length of abaya and its sleeves are shorter than what i thought, i believe i should have ordered one size bigger than what we ordered last time).

Also i would like to give one suggestion about the zipper of tie-back overhead abaya. I think it will look more pretty if the zipper of this abaya is the invisible zipper instead of close-ended zipper .

  10. Bismillah-Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullah

The overhead abaya has been my first love ever since I accepted Islam. I wore them as a single sister, and as a married pregnant sister …….and after! They honestly do “cover all”.
For me wearing the overhead without ties was easier than the ones with ties simply because , if like me, you like your abayas to drag a little, you will find that you may step on the back of the abayas(or someone else would) and Id find my head would snap back in a very uncomfortable fashion. So wearing the overhead sans tie was simpler.
The ones I owned had to be sewn up at the middle (front) so we could go as far up as we wanted. Sometimes we used snap buttons to close the front up higher to our chins…whatever we wanted…I prefer to wear the abaya this way because it actually gives sisters choices as to how high it goes in a more secure way than a zipper.
Im not saying that wearing the overhead is easy and it is a choice but honestly I think it looks the best.
Ive had sisters ask me where I got my overhead from. I even had loaned it out on occasion because when it comes to Islamic Outerwear…I think the overhead just “drops” in the most stylist way that complies to fully “sunnability”.
That doesn’t mean that Im not as attached to my other shoulder jilbabs. I wear what I want to wear depending on my moods but I will say this..if I want to make a statement as relates to being a muslima in NYC, London or anywhere else in the world…I like to wear my overhead.
Anyways thats just my ramblings. I hope Im able to help you with my comments. I honestly make dua for your continual success. Good business practice, communication and customer retentions are definitely the path to success in this kind of business.
    Jazak Allahu Khair.
